Unified Pentecostal Local Churches International, Incorporated
Forward
We cannot appreciate the present or project ourselves to the future without first knowing
our past. To know our roots is to have a rich resource from which to draw in times of prosperity
and adversity. Who we are, is who we have been. The reputation we have today has to do with
what our forefathers planted. As the Prophet Isaiah said,
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See,
darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you.” Isaiah 60:1-2.
The glory of the Lord and the powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit was the beginning of
this fellowship of churches we know today as the Unified Pentecostal Local Church
International, Incorporated. In trying to put together a brief history of God’s work among us,
seems humbling like walking on hallowed ground. The beloved physician might have felt the same way when he wrote in Luke 1:1-2, “Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from
the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.”
It is my prayer, as you read this material, to be inspired and believe with us that God is in
this work. What is happening today is the seed planted by men and women of God. They gave
their all so God’s name will be glorified and coming generations will never take their eyes off
Jesus, who really is “the author and perfecter of our faith.” Their dream was to see the future
generation striving for excellence in their relationship with God, in Christian Education, and in
fulfilling their ministry. Also, for them not to forget where they have come from, as we read in
Isaiah 51:1-2; Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD: Look
to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn; look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth.
When I called him he was but one, and I blessed him and made him many.”
My personal satisfaction will be to hear the coming generation say as in 2 Timothy 1:3,
“I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and
day I constantly remember you in my prayers.”
Dr. John Carmona
The Unified Pentecostal Local Churches
On November 10, 1935 at 3:00 PM, the Unified Pentecostal Local Churches
International, Incorporated was born at 118 N. Cedro Street in Weslaco, Texas. The founding
pastor of the church in Weslaco was Reverend Arnulfo M. Lopez. Reverend Lopez was a former
minister of the Methodist Church. He was also a former minister of the First Independent
Pentecostal Church, a church he also founded in Weslaco. He had emigrated to the USA from
Mexico. A few months after founding Iglesia Cristiana Bethel, he and a group of twelve
ministers gathered to form the UPLCII. Among those present were the Jesus Abraham Vasquez,
Cruz Lopez Vasquez, Guadalupe Vidauri, Santiago Martinez, Maggie MaCasslin, Ninfa V.
Garcia, Matias Medina, Josue Salinas, Genaro Salinas, Santiago Martinez, Evelyn Patterson,
Ponciano Cabrera and others.
Ponciano Cabrera was pastor of the church at Berclair, Texas. In every generation, people
who lay the foundation for a great work of God have paid a great price. Dr. David Shibley:
“The story of the worldwide advance of our Christian faith is the most thrilling
saga in history. Often it has been written in blood.”
The UPLCII has its martyrs. It happened in the church of Berclair, Texas (Now Monte El
Olivar, Beeville, Texas). In early 1939, while a night service was being conducted, a Mexican-
American constable of Goliad County, came to the church to stop the service. He hated the
evangelical Christians. A deacon of the church, Eulalio Valle, met him at the door. He tried to
reason with the constable not to interfere with the service. The constable drew his revolver and
killed the deacon on the church doorstep. At the sound of the commotion, a member rushed to
investigate, he was Jesus Kohler, and he too was killed. It was a dark night for the little church
of Berclair. It became the turning point that rallied the church together and strengthened the
resolve of its members to serve the Lord without regard for their own lives. They imitated the
indomitable apostle who said in Acts 21:13-14:
“Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound,
but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. When he would
not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, ‘The Lord’s will be done.’ ”
Reverend Arnulfo M. Lopez was named the first president of the UPLCII, a post he held
for a few months. After his resignation from presidency and from the Organization, the
missionary Maggie McCaslin was asked to take the presidency. She was the second president of
the UPLCI. She was name to that post by a message given by the Holy Spirit. Missionary
McCaslin, Ninfa V. Garcia, and pastor Evelyn Patterson join forces in ministry to minister to the
Hispanic, Mexican-American, community. They were holy consecrated women dedicated totally
to the ministry. All three of them came form well to do families, educated, and fluent in the
Spanish language. All three were disowned by their families because of the called of God in their
life and for having chosen to work among the Hispanic. But they gladly suffered for the Lord and
fulfilled their ministry with joy. Sister Paulita T. Castilleja recalls that missionary McCaslin and
Pastor Ninfa V. Garcia wanted the ladies to wear white dress, because it represented holiness and
cleanliness. She remembers seen them make their own white dress from the flour sacks after the
flour had been used. Of course, all the women followed suit. The Women’s Ministry has come a
long way.
Reverend Fred Treviño, pastor of El Buen Pastor Christian Church in Cuero, TX, 1949 –
1961, recalls that, in his younger years, he was the chauffeur and guitar player for Maggie
McCaslin, Ninfa V. Garcia, and Evelyn Patterson. He says they were women of prayer,
dedicated and compassionate with the people. He also remembers the day that he and Conrado
Lopez of Weslaco, Texas went swimming after dropping off the three ladies at a prayer service.
He took the car with him and after the swim he found out that he had lost the keys in the river.
Where upon he and Conrado pushed the car all the way back to the church, about six miles,
never to repeat the same feat again.
About a year later after Missionary Maggie McCaslin had been named president, in an official
meeting, the Holy Spirit spoke through sister McCaslin, letting the churches know that pastor J.
Abraham Vasquez was to be the president. The year was 1937. Reverend Vasquez held that
position for 33 years. From 1937 until June 1970.
Rev. Vasquez emigrated to the USA from Sabinas Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He was
a man of limited education but very intelligent, full of the Holy Spirit, consecrated to God, and
totally dedicated to the task. During his tenure the UPLC started to take form with the first Bible
Institute, conventions, conferences, basic structure, credentials for ministers, presbyters, and the
first Constitution of the UPLC published in 1956. In the convention celebrated in Taylor, Texas
in 1969 a decision was made to purchase ten acres of land in Kenedy, Texas. During the course
of the year it was decided, by the Executive Board, to have the convention of 1970 in Kenedy.
The convention of 1970 made history two ways; 1) The first convention was held in what
was to become the headquarters of the Organization. 2) The Reverend John Carmona, pastor of
the church in Cuero, Texas, was elected president.
During his time in the presidency the UPLCI centralized itself in Kenedy, the convention
tabernacle was build, Bethel Bible Institute was established, and the UPLCI became
international. In 1983 having resigned from the presidency, the Reverend Santiago “Jimmy”
Longoria Junior, pastor of Iglesia Cristiana Bethel of Weslaco, Texas, was elected president.
During the presidency of Reverend Longoria, the UPLCII has expanded in the USA and
in the missionary endeavor. Conventions are now celebrated in metropolitan cities because of the
growth of the Organization. Bethel Bible Institute became Bethel Seminary
with accreditation to grant Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees. Presently a building has
been constructed, in Kenedy, to house the general offices, with a big hall, kitchen, and
dormitories. The work continues!

Unión Pentecostes de Iglesias Locales Internacional, Incorporadas
Delantero
Christian Church y New Hope Christian Church de Beeville, Texas).
vida.
rio a nadar.
negocios a tartar, y actas escritas.
a esa posición.
Missionettes For Christ
